🌱Air-Fryer Tofu in Black Pepper Sauce🌱 oil-free option. 💚When life gives you tofu, this is the recipe you’re going to want to make! Have a great weekend friends 💚.

✅Ingredients:
✅For the tofu:
1 (14-ounce) packet extra-firm tofu, pressed, cut into ¾-inch cubes
½ tablespoon tamari
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
½ teaspoon sesame or neutral flavored oil
✅Sauce:
¼ cup low-sodium tamari or soy sauce
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon freshly ground coarse black pepper
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon grated ginger
3 ½ tablespoons sesame oil or neutral flavored cooking oil (if baking)
1 small red onion, small dice (about 2/3 cup)
2 small serrano peppers, seeded and minced
8 large garlic cloves, minced
✅Preheat the oven to 400ºF. Alternatively, you can use an air-fryer to cook the tofu.
✅Place the tofu in a large bowl. Pour the tamari over the tofu and toss to coat. Add the cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and sesame oil (if baking) to the bowl. Toss gently until the tofu is evenly coated.
✅Transfer the tofu to a baking sheet or air-fryer basket in a single layer. Either bake for about 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Or air-fry at 400ºF for 10 minutes before tossing the tofu, and cook for about 3 minutes more, or until golden and slightly crispy.
✅Meanwhile, add the tamari, maple syrup, black pepper, cornstarch, ginger, and sesame oil (optional) to a medium bowl. Add ½ cup water and mix well to combine. Set aside.
✅Heat the sesame oil or broth in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the onion, and serrano peppers for about 4 minutes, or until softened, stirring occasionally. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Pour in the sauce and stir to combine. Cook until the sauce starts to thicken, stirring constantly. Remove the pan from the heat and mix in the tofu until coated in the sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
