Q. How long after my hair transplant are my grafts secure?
Video Transcript:
- Following a hair transplant, grafts become progressively more stable after two weeks. That's the point where you can really go back to your normal hair care. But before that, particularly in the first few days, you need to do things like avoid wearing a hat, avoid a power shower and be particularly careful. It takes those few days for the grafts to become properly embedded and resist being disrupted.
- When we place the little grafts in the scalp at the surgery, it takes between 10 and 14 days for the body to glue the graft into position. The body produces a substance called fibrin, and that sets after about 10 to 14 days. So the root system, which is 3.5 millimeters underneath the skin, is then locked into position, and the hair is then there for the rest of the patient's life.
